Volunteer Information
When a child joins a swim team, so do the parents. This sport requires parents to be participants, not just spectators. It takes so many people to run a swim meet that there is literally a job for everyone. Training for some jobs takes only a few minutes; others require attendance at clinics. None are as scary or difficult as you might think. Even at the Olympic level of competition, swimming officials are volunteers – parents who probably started out on a summer swim team. Please make sure that at least one member of your family works a job shift at each meet your child swims! In total, approximately 60+ volunteers are required to run a meet. Additional volunteers allow everyone to take breaks during the meet.
EACH FAMILY IS REQUIRED TO FULFILL 4 CREDITS OF VOLUNTEER WORK DURING THE REGULAR SEASON. Jobs will be assigned credit values, with some jobs being worth more "points" than others. You will be able to track your volunteer credits via the mobile app and your personal swimtopia account. Questions? Reach out to our volunteer coordinators.
A $275 volunteer deposit is mandatory. This can be made in the form of a credit card pre-authorization during registration (no charges will be made until the end of the season) or by sending in a check. Volunteer deposits are due by MAY 26. Swimmers may not practice or be entered into a meet until the deposit is received.
If your swimmer swims in the championship meets, you will also be required to fulfill a volunteer shift during the meet you are attending. These jobs are assigned by the league. We will make every effort to make sure your shift coincides with the events that you will be present for at the meet.
