Championship Meets
To qualify for the Championship meet, a swimmer must participate in at least two dual meets during the current swim season and have met the time standard for that event. At Champs, each swimmer is restricted to entering those events in which a legal time was recorded at a dual meet during the season. For example, if a swimmer never competed in the breaststroke event at a meet, that swimmer is not eligible to swim breaststroke at Championships. If a swimmer entered the breaststroke event weekly but always DQ’d (disqualified) because of illegal technique, etc., that swimmer is not eligible to swim breast at Champs. The coaches continue to make all entries.
A swimmer may enter ONLY ONE medal meet and may only swim the events in which they qualified for that meet. For example, if a swimmer has a Gold time in Freestyle and Silver times in Backstroke and Breaststroke they have the three following options:
1) Gold Meet - Freestyle only
2) Silver Meet - Backstroke and/or Breaststroke only
3) Bronze Meet - Butterfly and/or IM only
All families with swimmers participating in a championship meet are required to volunteer at that meet. This is in addition to your regular season volunteer requirements. Volunteer assignments are dictated by the league and team participation in the championship meets is contingent on providing volunteers. We will make every effort to coordinate your volunteer shift with the events your child is swimming.
The Championship is very exciting because it is the season finale. Larger championship ribbons are awarded for each event.
When hundreds of swimmers and their families converge from three teams to one pool for the Championship meet, parking, camping and observing space is at a premium. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with following the rules for the Championship meet. Years of experience have proven them necessary to run a safe, fair and timely meet.
